ITENE - IAPRI2024

ITENE is a leading research centre specialised in packaging which helps companies creating sustainable materials and technologies for the circular economy; and maximising the design, safety, and functionality of their packaging.

With almost 30 years of experience, this research centre puts its knowledge and technology at the service of industry through R&D and innovation projects and consultancy, testing and training services.

ITENE has 3,000 m2 of laboratories and pilot plants equipped with state-of-the-art technology in its facilities located in the Paterna Technology Park (Valencia, Sapin). In addition, the research centre has a new 1,928 m2 building, located opposite the current headquarters, for industrial pre-scaling projects. ITENE is currently expanding its main headquarters by an extra 1,100 m2.

Moreover, it has an ITENE Community of more than 4,000 companies and 10,000 professionals, it is member of the leading organisations in its field, and it takes an active role in the forums and initiatives it promotes.

Marta Codoñer

President of ITENE

President of ITENE since March 2023, Marta Codoñer is the Managing Director of AGLOLAK, S.L. The company AGLOLAK S.L. is dedicated to the production and marketing of wooden pallets and is located in Silla (Valencia).

Marta Codoñer is also a member of the Governing Council of the Packaging Cluster of the Valencia Region and serves as Vice President of Faproma (Spanish Association of Pallet and Wooden Products Manufacturers for Handling).

Faproma is the Spanish representative of FEFPEB (European Federation of Wooden Pallet and Packaging Manufacturers) and is also a member of FEIM (Spanish Federation of Wood Industry).

Javier Zabaleta PhD

Managing Director of ITENE

PhD in Industrial Engineering -whose thesis was focused on the simulation protocols for the transport of palletised loads-, Industrial Engineer (Polytechnic University of Valencia), master’s in economics and management at IESE (University of Navarra) and PADE (Senior General Management Programme) at IESE Business School.
He joined as Managing Director in the project of creation of ITENE on 4th October 1993, after a selection process, and has promoted the development of this research centre throughout the 27 years of life of the institute.

During all this time, he has participated in the development of innovative packaging solutions and in the development of new business opportunities, including the design of products and business models, and he has a wide experience as a research and development project manager.

He is also chairman of the Technical Committee for Standardisation (CTN) 49 - Packaging. Horizontal aspects and environmental management, of the Spanish Association for Standardisation (UNE). He is also president of the Alumni Association of the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, and of the board of trustees of the Fundación Politécnica de la Comunidad Valenciana (Polytechnic Foundation of the Valencian Community).

He has been a member of different management committees of international packaging associations such as IAPRI (International Association of Packaging Research Institutes) or ISTA (International Safe Transit Association). Throughout his professional career he has also been a member of the governing bodies of organisations such as FEDIT and REDIT.
